The Job of the Warrior is to get relentlessly beat upon. While there are a handful of classes in World of Warcraft that have the capability to tank, the Warrior stands above them all with more talents, abilities and equipment geared for the role. In a group setting, if the warrior dies first, they died knowing they did their job to the best of their abilities. Some players are better at holding the agro from the monsters than others, but it’s a common adage that effective tanking is 10% gear, 10% talent build and 80% skill.

A large part of effective tanking is outside the hands of the warrior. One common fallacy held by the players of World of Warcraft is that if a tank loses control of a monster, he’s a bad tank. While this very well could be true, the case could actually be quite the opposite. There is a limited number of things a Warrior can do to generate threat on a creature. Assuming that the skill, talents build are in place and the gear collected, he can build a lot of threat. There is an upper limit to the threat obtainable. When a character is assigned to tank, he will not be generating the majority of his threat from dealing damage to a target. Outside of the Warrior class, dealing damage is the best way to increase threat on a monster. Over a period of time, the threat from damage caused by another character can overcome the threat generated by the tank. In such a situation, as long as the warrior was using all his abilities to their maximum effectiveness, there’s nothing else he could have done to keep the focus of the enemy. A party who knows this, and can manage their own threat makes the tanks life that much easier. At lower levels, the group tends to blame the tank if he loses control of the monster. In the end game forty man instances, the smart groups tend to blame the player who pulled the target for not managing his own threat. Read the rest of this entry »

One of the most popular computer games of all time is Warcraft. Many incarnations of the game have come and gone over the years. One of the most recent one is called World of Warcraft (WOW). In this massive multi-player game, players are assigned the task of building and developing a character of a specific race to pit against the evil minions of the world.

An expansion game for WOW is called Burning Crusade. Within it players can choose from a variety of races including the Blood Elves. With the Burning Crusade Blood Elves, players are taking control of a long standing, proud army of stoic warriors.

A rogue is one of the fastest classes in World of Warcraft for leveling. If you are a first timer WOW player, the rogue is a great choice because of their abilities to level and grind faster than the other classes. Read on to discover more fascinating information about the rogue class and uncover some great leveling tips.

One of the most important abilities that a rogue possesses is stealth. This one ability will keep you from dying many times. Use it to protect yourself from random 60′s who will run by or from mobs when you are away from your keyboard.

A rogue is easily geared up because of the variety of daggers, swords and maces that are dropped all over the place, especially on a dedicated server. Choose the weapon that you like the best. Make sure your weapon is consistent in killing and protecting yourself from higher level mobs.

Armor is generally easy to come by as a rogue. There is an abundance of leather armor drops during battle and you can also buy it at the auction houses. Monkey gear is an easy choice for leveling. Other craftable pieces of leather armor are great choices also. The best gear for leveling is + critical, agility and stamina. Everyone has heard of World of Warcraft by now. It’s the most popular massive multi-player role playing game (MMORPG) in the world, boasting a good 12 million+ players, thousands of which can be logged on at any given moment. There are numerous servers all around the world hosting such a huge number of players.

Many of the individuals who play WoW are highly competitive with one another. They all want to level up to 80 as quickly as possible, and to earn tons of gold, epic gear, and points along the way. Whether it’s a dungeon raid, PVP match, instance, etc, everyone loves showing off their skills. While most people play for fun and enjoyment, there are many who take online gaming rather seriously. It’s always best for any player to learn as much as the game as possible.

There are plenty of resources and tools available online that assist people with playing. Some, such as coordinate add-ons, are perfectly acceptable and in accordance with the rules. There are many guides available for leveling a specific class within the World of Warcraft game. There are, however, few guides that provide resources on how to play a specific class to its fullest abilities. Getting a toon to the max level in a few days of played time is wonderful, but if the player does not learn the fine skills needed to work together well with other players in a raid, or levels by questing and expects to walk into a PVP arena and succeed, that player will be disappointed.

Many players turn to the official WoW forums for advice. This is a big mistake. Every pre-pubescent kid with internet access is on those forums posting their un-informed advice as if it were gospel truth. It is difficult to wade through the morass and discern what information is valid and what comes from some teen building up his own ego.

However, if you look hard enough, you can find some golden nuggets of truth out there. The problem is that it takes a long time to find good information, as it tends to be scattered across the internet. That is, unless you come across a site like Archmagus.

Archmagus is a free online guide to playing a World of Warcraft mage to the fullest. It contains advice on gear selection, spec selection, tips for PVPing, etc. It’s especially good for players that are new to the mage class, but even veteran mages can benefit. Read the rest of this entry »
