Not many items, and definitely not any other shield, can be use for so many levels as the Wall of the Dead shield.

You can get the Wall of the Dead shield from level 45, and it will be good as it gets (shield that is) for up to level 60 (and for some even more). The Wall of the Dead is an epic item (purple) with 2226 armor a 41 block rating, and you will gain 10 strength and a 15 stamina.  

Also when you are struck in combat it will give you a 3% chance to be encase in bone, increasing your armor by 150 for 20 sec.  

With all of that you can see how you can use it as a warrior tank, or even have an enchant of high intelligent on it and get it on your paladin.  

You can get this as a random drop from many mobs in all zones with 45 and higher mobs. But the drop rite is less than 1% for all of them so your best chance is to buy it on the auction house, as you don’t want to look for it while you level up. You want it on you!  

You can buy it for a good price of 150 gold (as it Binds when equipped), and if the other player does not know what he have in his hands you can get it for as low as 30 gold (I have seen proof for that). Also, as the DK bone armor looks like this effect, you can confuse the unsuspected regular WOW player with it…
